Want to do a PhD on the Science of Magic?
Opportunity to Complete a PhD on the Science of Magic at Lund University in Sweden
Hey folks,
My current workplace, Lund University's Department of Cognitive Science is currently advertising for PhD candidates. If you or anyone you know is on the market for a PhD position, this is potentially a fantastic opportunity to conduct a thesis project on the Science of Magic!
The advertisement is an open call the includes Cognitive Science, as well as Practical and Theoretical Philosophy. And the Cognitive Science Department is very open to folks with backgrounds in experimental psychology or cognitive psychology. More specifically, my group, The Choice Blindness Lab (led by Lars Hall & Petter Johansson), is keen to introduce more members with interests and experience in applying magic trick methods to behavioral science research.
Personally, I can attest that Lund is an excellent place to work! I'm still very pleased they hired me on a project developing fake mind control machines using mentalism magic methods. Overall, I think it's a great place to complete your doctoral studies. Delightfully, our fake mind control machines arguably aren't even the weirdest research projects currently ongoing (and from me that's very much a professional opinion)- you'll have colleagues working on human robot interactions and even 'dinosaur cognition!'
The deadline for applications is in 2 weeks (15 February 2023 @ 11:59PM CET)
Details about the application process can be found here: https://lu.varbi.com/en/what:job/jobID:582282/type:job/where:4/apply:1
Please feel free to share, and to reach out to me if you have questions!
(Apologies for those of you who don't find this relevant, I'll have a proper newsletter out with more general updates soon, but I wanted to push this out now because of the impending deadline)
Best,
